WSI regularly attends national strategic sessions compromising of top-level officials from various government and private intuitions. STWR and SANParks , along with other key stakeholders, have been holding a series of strategic meetings during the course of the year. The purpose of these meetings is to collectively discuss a broader security plan for the region.
The Waterberg Integrated Rhino Protection Plan will help to protect all endangered species. This puts WSI in a unique position to help counter the endangered species poaching taking place.
These strategic meetings and plans help keep WSI up to date on crime trends and patterns throughout Limpopo and South Africa as a whole, this allows us to stay ahead of the crime curve. Through these meetings WSI management networks and connects to high ranking.
WSI regards all fauna and flora as important and requires safeguarding, WSI often attends farms where meat poaching is a problem and have through the removal of snares saved many lives of game animals. The WSI tracking team often goes out to sweep farms for any evidence of criminal or suspicious activities, we have identified a few problem areas and have with the cooperation of SAPS started targeting and reducing the crime in these areas. This greatly reduces poaching in these areas, we have had numerous success stories where we have drastically reduced snare poaching and, in some cases, totally eradicated it.
