Providing assistance with emergency medical response and rescue in the event of injury
Fire Protection
WSI was appointed in August 2018 to take over the management of the Melkrivier FPA. Thupa Seegers, a WSI committee member, has been named FPA chairman. Following a recent meeting, it was decided to make the community more aware of the danger of veld fires. 6 Signboards were erected at informal villages and a further 4 boards were installed at the WSI containers and at the WSI office which that indicates the daily FDI.
We can proudly report that due to the WSI management and leadership, the FBA sector has grown from being almost non-existent to one of the most successful sectors in the country.
The Modimolle sector has been named the most successful sector in the country with our sector as the best in Modimolle. Every year, a kickback of 40% of members fees is paid to a sector. This fund does not belong to WSI but to the entire FPA sector. Some of the funds were utilized to buy firefighting equipment.
The Melkrivier FPA sector is armed and ready for the winter’s fires!
The Melkrivier FPA area are divided into 7 sectors. Block leader was appointed, who is the contact person for any fire or emergency in that sector. There are also plans to train the sector leader in first aid and a comprehensive fire and emergency plan will be put in place for each sector.
If you are not yet a member of the FPA, we would also like to request you to join to protect yourself. It is also a prerequisite for your insurance that you are a member. If a fire on your farm spread to another farm, the FPA may give you a fine of R150000.00 or 3 years jail sentence. Members’ funds are nominal and payable annually. For more information, please contact Annalie at the WSI office or speak with Thupa our FPA Chairman.
Emergency
WSI has the ability to do crisis management and emergency assistance through the tools available. WSI has access to Helicopters in time of an emergency, has direct communications with emergency services dispatch (ambulances), has access to K9 tracking units, has access to additional forces over and above what is deployed full time and has a full-time Safety and Security operations manager whose sole responsibility is ensuring the safety and security of all in our community.
